ACID/ALKALINE (PH) BALANCE FOR HEALTH
To be healthy, it is absolutely necessary to be in a state of acid/alkaline balance! Some foods, when they are digested, create an acid environment in the body and others have an alkalizing effect and can neutralize harmful acids.
  Our modern eating habits, of 'dead' food (no enzymes) that are cooked (processed) that consist of bad fats, high sugar content, chemical additives to color, flavour and preserve, create a very acid environment in our bodies. An acid environment causes the cells function to become impaired. Impaired cells cannot receive sufficient oxygen and nutrients and they cannot dispose of their cellular waste efficiently. When the body has been chronically acidic, many other cellular processes become impaired. This will cause the cells to begin to change and become cancerous because cancer cells don't need oxygen to survive and cells kept in a chronically oxygen deficient environment such as an acid one, seem to adapt somewhat to their environment, fatigue and disease eventually set in. If the state of chronic acidosis continues, disease may become irreversible.

  I always thought because citrus fruits were acidy that they would not be good to eat if I was trying to reduce the acid environment in my body, but once they are digested they have an alkalizing effect on the body and neutralize the cell damaging acids. The human body needs a PH that is slightly alkaline.
